Amalgam

Amalgam

Amalgam Rule Update: The compliance date for the amalgam separator rule is July 14, 2020. This is the date by which existing sources subject to the rule must comply.

Under this new federal rule, most general dental practices need to install amalgam separators — even ones that do not place amalgam. Some state or local water authorities may have stricter laws than the federal regulation.

All dentists need to ensure they’re in compliance, and submit a form to their local water authority. The ADA has resources to help you determine if you need to comply, and how to do so.
