If you need help meeting the terms of your dental school loans, one of the many federal and state programs that offer student loan repayment assistance, often in exchange for services in a healthcare shortage area, may be an option for you.
Federal options include programs sponsored by the Army, Navy, Air Force, Veteran Affairs, U.S. Public Health Service, National Health and Human Services, Indian Health Service and more. States have their own programs that are independent of the federal programs.
In addition, many dental schools and advanced programs may have financial assistance and loan repayment options. Contact your school’s financial aid office for more information. The American Dental Education Association has published a summary chart of loan forgiveness programs for dentists and dental hygienists in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.
If you’re a new dentist or dental student, take a look at the Dental Student Loan Repayment Programs & Resources document attached below under Supporting Materials. Compiled uniquely for dental students and recent dental school graduates, it’s a perfect starting point for investigating your loan options.
