The Quarterly Business Survey of ADA members sponsored by ADA Member Advantage in cooperation with the Center for Professional Success finds that general and specialty dentists are generally compensated based on either production or salary, while other staff are paid on an hourly basis. The most common benefits offered to those working in a practice include vacation time, dental benefits, paid sick time, and paid professional development.
Overall, 35 percent of dentists say they have a compensation incentive program for staff. Of practices with such a program, 54 percent are based on collection, 32 percent are based on production, and 14 percent are based on other factors.
