Three branches of the Armed Services (Army, Air Force and Navy) have their own health care corps. Within each corps, the health care team has dental professionals fulfilling critical and essential roles in multi-specialty practices to keep the service members in a state of readiness, along with providing dental services to the families of service members. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs also provides dental care to our nation’s military veterans.

Active (full time) and Reserve (part time) positions are available, as well as some civilian employment opportunities. The military generally offers a comprehensive benefit package that can consist of student loan repayment, health insurance, retirement benefits and much more. Opportunities exist across the whole gamut of experience levels including dental students, new graduates and seasoned practitioners. Some administrative roles also exist, though typically one would begin as a practitioner and move upward into these positions.

Dental Officers in the Commissioned Corp work throughout the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and in other federal agencies and programs, including:
